When it comes to veterans of professional wrestling, fans right now forget that Fandango fits that mold. The 38 year old spent the bulk of his career in the WWE midcard, prior to his release in 2021. That ended a 15 year run with the company, but it might have been near the end of his time in the ring regardless.
Fandango Was In Talks To Become A Coach Prior To His WWE Release
During a recent virtual autograph signing for Captains Corner, Fandango would discuss his future in WWE prior to his release. Fandango was in talks to become a coach soon.
“I think I saw the writing on the wall. I was 37 at the time, you kinda read the writing on the wall. I had a good run and I was kind of already speaking with WWE about possibly coaching down the road.”
As for how things felt following his WWE release, Fandango would have the following to say.
“It didn’t seem real though for a couple of months after because you live your life for so long under contract and it’s — I guess the first thing was everyone bombards you and they want you to come and do signings for them and stuff like that. I don’t know how everybody got my number. It’s just overwhelming.
It’s a lot to take in. I suggest turning your phone off for a day or two and just relax. It’s not all negative, because you get overwhelmed with a lot of your friends that reach out to you and see how you’re doing, to make sure everything’s okay, and if you need anything. It’s a niche community, professional wrestling where your friends help you out and point you in the right direction.”
While he never claimed singles gold in WWE, Fandango did defeat Chris Jericho at WrestleMania in a big time singles match. He would claim his only gold in WWE in NXT alongside Tyler Breeze, a short reign as NXT Tag Team Champion. Right now, he wrestles under the ring name of Dirty Dango, and could be set to retire from the ring soon if recent comments on social media are to be believed.
