So, the trio that got arrested in Panama City had enough fentanyl to wipe out the city’s population of 35,000. However, one Orange County drug dealer had enough fenty to wipe out Panama City as well as Orange, San Francisco, and Los Angeles counties—and still have some leftover.
Massive Orange County Drug Bust Nets in 24 Kilos in Fentanyl and $250K in Pills – Enough to Kill 12 MILLION People According to DA
Alfonso Gomez-Santana (60) was nabbed with four kilos of the drug in his car by the California Highway Patrol in Fullerton during a traffic stop on June 22, 2022. This gave authorities enough reason to search his home where they found an additional 20 kilos of fentanyl as well as $250,000 in pills and 122 grams of methamphetamine.
Gomez-Santana is looking at felony counts of drug possession and sale or transport. On June 24, he pleaded not guilty even with the drugs being found in his car and in his home. If he is convicted, he could receive up to 6 years and 8 months in jail.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer had a very strong statement about the arrest and fentanyl in general:
“It is unconscionable that someone who has the ability to kill 12 million people is facing just a handful of years in jail. Fentanyl is a national epidemic that killed more than 100,000 Americans last year and it’s not going to stop unless we have the tools as prosecutors to hold these drug dealers and drug manufacturers accountable for peddling death.”
Spitzer goes on to say that every parent in America should be scared “that one day they are going to walk into their child’s bedroom and find them dead because their child thought they were experimenting with recreational drugs and instead drug dealers sold them a deadly dose of fentanyl.”
He ends by stating that his words aren’t fear-mongering but reality. Spitzer then calls for stronger penalties for drug dealers. In teaming up with Riverside DA Mike Hestrin, he has done just that and is pushing for second-degree murder charges if there is a fentanyl-related death.
