Mike Tyson is an extremely successful sportsman. He is one of the few legendary boxing figures and will remain as such until the end of time. With the high paycheck, he was able to do whatever he wanted and whenever he wanted it.
Mike Tyson rose to the top with incredible speed. It is as if he knows some secret shortcut to getting rich and famous. However, it is not all just luck. He has the ability to knock someone out in a matter of seconds. His brutal and aggressive fighting style makes him one of the most interesting boxers to watch.
Mike Tyson Liked Prison – I Had The Three Best Years Of My Life There
As he gains fame, he gains money. And money opens up all kinds of doors to him. Some are good, but some are not that much. As he acquires properties and cars, he acquires more and more vices and false friends along with it. Despite his belief that he is unbeatable and has grabbed the world by its balls, it turns out it is not as he thought.
Desiree Washington, a Miss Black America contestant, files accusations that Iron Mike tried to rape her. Mike denies the claims, but despite it, he ends up in jail. The judge sends him to prison for 10 years. After only 3 years he is out of there, released because of good behavior.
You may think that this is when the ‘Baddest man on the planet’ lost it all, his motivation, his money, and his reputation. But you’d be very wrong. Mike Tyson found himself in prison. He had the time of his life.
In a recent Podcast episode of the ‘Pivot Podcast‘, the boxing legend reveals his experience in prison while enjoying some of his own brand of weed.
“I had the best three years of my life in prison.” – Tyson says. “I had peace. That money doesn’t mean anything if you don’t have your peace, your stability, and your balance. You need your sanity to dictate any part of life. I had good food, everybody was nice to me, and they treated me well.”
Seems like everybody fears him there, and he is treated like a celebrity. “I would run around the yard 8 or 9 miles and in the evenings I would jump for four hours, in my cell. Everybody treated me good in jail, they were afraid of me, but I was always a good person.”
Tyson is very spiritual in the latter part of his life. Often, he comes out with a quote about life that has deep meaning. If you didn’t know the author behind it you’d think of someone like Dalai Lama.
“I believe that once you die, you start to live. There’s more than just us out there. You have to kill your ego to actually appreciate life. Ego is good, but it’s not a life. Use it for football and boxing or whatever, but live a life without it.” – Tyson says and concludes his feature in the podcast.
