If you are called ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet‘ most probably there is a background to that nickname. Mike Tyson is one of the most feared and powerful boxers of all time. So when one of the best boxers of all time, Mike Tyson, gives you compliments on your boxing skills that means you are really doing it right.
Back in 2019 Tyson ends up watching Serena Williams punching a boxing bag. He is so amazed by her skills that he even tweets about it. “Wouldn’t want to get in the ring with this GOAT” – he says in the tweet.
Mike Tyson Teaches Boxing To Serena Williams – Her Punches Surprise Him
There is video footage of the event. The event took place at the annual sports camp hosted by Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou back in 2019. As expected, Serena Williams is a top-notch sportswoman with great endurance and strong will.
Even though her branch of sports discipline is totally different that Mike Tyson’s, they might have more in common than you would initially think. Both sports require great endurance and cardio readiness. Both sports require massive strength and great speed of reaction. And lastly, both sports require great focus on your opponent.
You can see in the video that Williams is not entirely new to throwing punches. At least it looks like it. She has the power and the technique. Since tennis requires the activation of more or less the same muscles needed to throw a boxing punch, this is barely a surprise. However, Williams does not have an interest in making a boxing career. She sticks to tennis and will most probably continue to do so until she is successful there.
Williams is looking forward to Wimbledon, that started one week ago. She will fight Harmony Tan first, 113th in rank in the world’s list.
Mike Tyson is amazed by Serena’s technique and power, but he backs off from giving full-time coaching sessions to her. To her, or to anyone else for that matter. On a recent episode of his podcast, he reveals that he lacks the patience and dedication to wake up and be a mentor each morning.
However, many people do counter this thinking. They think that Iron Mike might make a great coach. He surely has the experience and the knowledge. He underwent great training sessions with his coach and might implement them to train some ‘fresh blood’. Since we are unlikely to see him in the ring professionally once more, we might enjoy a fight of some of his trainees. Imagine having Mike Tyson’s trainee against Holyfield’s. What a great opportunity for both fighters that might be.
What do you think? Would Serena make a good boxer?
