Tyler Perry has admitted he has struggled to remain friends with both Will Smith and Chris Rock following the Oscars slapgate incident.
Tyler Perry Controversially Claims Will Smith Was ‘Triggered’ During Slapgate-‘Stop Making Will Smith The Victim’
Will, for his part, brought shame on his best actor award for ‘King Richard’ when he decided to lash out at the comedian over his joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss.
And ever since that moment, Will has tried to keep a relatively low profile, while Chris’ popularity has soured with plenty of comedy material from the incident to keep himself occupied.
But for Tyler, being stuck in the middle has not been easy. In his comments, he said: “Being friends with both of them has been very difficult…it was as painful for Chris, who was a pure champion for the way he handled it.”
Just as Tyler praised Chris, he also had some time for Will who he felt was suffering. But rather than justify what Will had done, Tyler had a more nuanced approach to the matter.
He expanded on how Will had become impacted by something in and amongst the joke. In this way, Will’s reaction towards Chris was ultimately triggered by something.
And yet, Tyler did not go as far as to state what that could have been. His following comments confirmed as much: “I want you to understand that something happened that was extremely painful for [Will] as well.
“That is no excuse. He was completely wrong for what he did. But something triggered him.” The fans on social media were not impressed with Tyler’s comments.
People were of the view that the star was trying to downplay what Will had done. After all, Chris was left humiliated while Will walked away without any charges.
One person wrote: “Stop making Will Smith the victim,” while another person stated: “Nobody cares about Will’s feelings after that s**t.”
It is safe to say that Will has a lot to do before he is accepted back in the public domain. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
