Matt Sydal would be disgusted by Lee Moriarty last week on AEW Rampage, when he cheated to defeat Dante Martin. Tonight, Sydal returns from an injury suffered in early 2022 – with Moriarty facing down his mentor here tonight. Sydal would teach Moriarty a lot about wrestling, but hardly everything he knows. Tonight, we see just how good Moriarty is.
Lee Moriarty Taps His Mentor Out – Aligns With Stokely Hathaway
A handshake would lead Moriarty to hit a headbutt, starting off fast against Sydal. Some heavy strikes would be followed by a front chancery suplex – before Sydal nailed the rolling solebutt kick and a running kick into the corner. Sydal would hit the standing corkscrew senton, getting a two count.
Moriarty would be sent to the floor, before a wrecking ball dropkick and the meteora. Sydal would be thrown into the barricade back first, before a running boot to the face. Back in the ring, Moriarty would focus on Sydal’s shoulder, hitting a snap armbreaker.
Sydal would get rolled up for a two count, before Moriarty nailed a massive lariat. Some knees to the midsection would see Sydal counter before a Question Mark kick and the Lightning Spiral for the two count. Stokely Hathaway would make his way to ringside, cheering on Moriarty.
Sydal would head up top, but Stokely would distract him. Moriarty would take advantage with an implant DDT, before locking in the Border City Stretch for the submission victory. The student beat the teacher, and in impressive fashion. After the bell, Stokely Hathaway would offer the business card, and Moriarty accepted it this time.
Anna Jay Is Renewed As A Member Of The J.A.S
Ruby Soho is coming off a wrist injury, with Jericho Appreciation Society being the ones who put her on the shelf. Tay Conti was the one who got Soho involved in the feud between the J.A.S and Eddie Kingston, but tonight – Soho gets the newest member of the faction, Anna Jay. Long a member of the Dark Order, Jay is looking to prove her skills once again in AEW – and show this was the right career move for her.
Anna would go right after that recently injured wrist, but Soho would roll to escape. Soho would nail a set of chops to the chest of Jay, before having Deadly Nightshade blocked in the corner. Jay would nail a big superkick, and Soho landed on that previously injured hand – before taking a kick to the head.
Jay would keep the pressure on, while finding time to taunt. Soho would look for a sunset flip, before taking a strike to the face. The wrist was slammed off the mat, before Jay would nail the running back elbow in the corner. Soho would fight back, before taking the flatliner into the Fujiwara Armbar.
Jay would pull the cast of Soho off, before looking to choke her with it. Soho would fight with the one good arm, and nailed the Backdrop Driver. Destination Unknown would be blocked, before Jay hit the Gory Bomb. Queenslayer would be locked in, but Soho countered free before No Future Kick for a two count.
Diving Senton would miss, before Queenslayer was attempted once again. Jay would apply the choke with the cast over the throat over the neck of Soho, and would get the win by referee stoppage.
