On July 19, 2022, a crew member of Law & Order: Organized Crime was shot on set at around 5:15 AM. NBC New York reports that the crew member was 31-year-old Johnny Pizarro who was with the production to clear the streets where scenes are being shot and find space for the production’s trucks.

At the time, Pizarro was sitting in a vehicle in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn. It was reported that there were no security personnel or police near the scene. While in the car, the suspect walked up, opened the door, and began shooting into the vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
In a statement to Deadline about the shooting, a spokesman for Mayor Eric Adams’ office said:
“The safety of all New Yorkers is our top priority. No shooting is acceptable, which is why we are working every day to get illegal guns off New York City streets. The NYPD is actively investigating the fatal shooting of a crew member of ‘Law and Order: Organized Crime’ early this morning. We offer our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time, and will work diligently to bring the suspect to justice and stem the tide of gun violence we are seeing.”
A spokeswoman for NBCUniversal said that they are working with the NYPD in their investigation:
“We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result. We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate.”
