The comedian’s show received a lot of backlash on the basis that his jokes were deemed to be mocking members of the LGBTQ community.
So much so that his show was referred to as being transphobic. As a result, employees working at Netflix decided to stage a walkout protest.
While that did not turn out to be successful, the very fact of the matter is that there are still those who had a lot to say. And one such person included none other than Ashlee Marie Preston, who happened to help organise the Netflix walkout protest.
In her comments to TMZ, she said: “This is the age where platforms like Netflix and others, they are you know fostering this culture of chaos and contention that people are able to capitalise on.”
With that being said, it will be fascinating to see if Dave does end walking away with an award. Much in the same way, if Dave’s appearance does end up getting eclipsed by numerous members of the LGBT community walking away with awards, then that could equally be a huge statement too.
Regardless of what happens, it appears that Ashlee and her supporters have no intention of canceling David. Her following comments confirmed as much: “This was never about canceling Dave Chapelle.
“This was never about hating on anything that he is doing.” The fans on social media, however, were critical of Ashlee.
This was on the grounds that they felt things had been taken too far and ultimately Dave’s comments were not meant to be taken to heart.
After all, he is a comedian. One person wrote: “I[f] trans want to fit into society, they better get use[d] to jokes.” The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, 12th September 2022.
