Mike Tyson is valued as one of the best fighters in the whole world. At the peak of his career, people got this image of him like he is invincible in the ring. He delivered some of the best knockouts in boxing history. Moreover, he holds the record for the quickest victory in boxing history. He defeated Marvis Frazier back in 1986 for a little below 30 seconds.
Being this remarkable individual and incredible sports person you’d think that the invincibility in the ring would be transferred to his personal life as well. However, that appears not to be true.
Mike Tyson Gives Health Update – He Feels He Is Close To Death
On a recent episode of his podcast, Mike Tyson admits that he is not what he used to be. He admits that at an age of 56, his health may be showing the first signs of leaving him. The confession comes during the conversation that the professional boxer has with the therapist Sean McFarland on the episode of the Hotboxin with Mike podcast. He refers to his situation as being ‘an inch closer to death’.
“We’re all gonna die one day of course.” – Tyson says. “Then, when I look in the mirror, I see those little spots on my face, I say, ‘Wow. That means my expiration date is coming close, really soon.’”
Mike Tyson is a completely new man now in his retirement years. He is more spiritual than ever. A successful businessman who seeks satisfaction in small things. He confesses that during his boxing career he had the opportunity to be around some ‘bog money’. However, that is not something that gets the feeling of fulfillment to him. He explains that he doesn’t see security in money as others do.
“The false sense of security. You believe nothing can happen. We don’t believe the banks could collapse. You believe that you’re invincible when you have a lot of money, which isn’t true.” – Tyson says. “That’s why I always say money is a false sense of security.”
“What is security? I don’t know. When you put money in your bank and you get a check every week and you can live for the rest of your life, is that security? That means you won’t catch a disease, you can’t get hit by a car? You can’t jump off a bridge. I don’t know. Is that security? Can money secure you from that?”
Seems like now, he finally is in a phase in his life where he is getting to realize that he is vulnerable. That ending might come any time.
Hopefully, that day is far in the future. We hope that he will live a long and healthy life. He is a legend and every additional day we have him on Earth is a blessing.
