Tomohiro Ishii got striked out by Taichi to start this tournament, and tonight will step up to the reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Jay White was able to start his tournament with a win over SANADA, but has a losing record against The Stone Pitbull – a man who can stop the tricks of White, and overwhelm him with sheer force. Ishii holds a 3-1-0 record against White. This is a main event anywhere in the world, and a win here would instantly put Ishii into the title hunt over the fall.
Jay White Gets A Small Assist From Gedo To Gain Early Control
Before this match would begin, Jay White would set up a seat for Gedo, and a chair for him to put his feet up. He doesn’t want his help tonight, White wants to beat Ishii in his own way. Ishii would lock up hard with White, before running him down with a hard shoulder tackle.
In the ring, White would distract the referee with a steel chair… as Gedo threw a chair at Ishii’s face. White claimed to know nothing about this, and would go after his opponent, running him into the barricade. Back into the ring, White would go for the pinfall, and the referee refused to count after the antics on the floor.
Ishii would be driven into the corner with the Half Hatch Suplex, and would do a little dance before going for the single leg crab. White would hold on through the referee’s count, before suffocating Ishii with the ring skirt. Back in the ring, White would hit some knee strikes before applying the rear chinlock.
Some stomps to the midsection would follow, before White would be dropped with the powerslam. The Stone Pitbull would maul White in the corner with elbow smashes and chops, beating the champ within inches of his life. Backdrop driver would land, before White fired back with a quick spike DDT.
Improving His Record Against Ishii
Running uppercut in the corner would follow, before White wanted Bladebuster – but instead would rake the eyes of Ishii and hit some shoulder tackles. Front suplex drop onto the apron would punish the ribs of Ishii. Bladebuster in the ring would get the two count, before a complete shot and deadlift German Suplex.
Ishii would be spiked with the Urange, but was able to kick out. Superplex from White would land, but Ishii fired up and pounced White into the corner. Ishii would show White how a stalling vertical suplex is actually done, before Ishii would lok for the Vertical Drop Brainbuster. Gedo got to the apron, but Ishii avoided the low blow, only for White to hit a brainbuster.
Ishii battled to his feet, and took a massive lariat – and nearly remained vertical after this before collapsing. Powerbomb was set, but White slipped free only to be crunched with a headbutt. Ishii would use the ropes to get to his feet, before White would almost hit Blade Runner. Ishii would deny this, before taking the Sleeper Suplex… only to come back with one of his own!
White was dropped with a lariat, before blocking the Vertical Drop Brainbuster into Blade Runner for the sudden win. Ishii might have had him dead to rights, but only three seconds matters in the end.
Could Jay White become the first man since Kensuke Sasak to win the G1 as champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
