Zack Sabre Jr. got his first two points of the G1 Climax simply because KENTA got greedy, and left himself open to an armbar. Meanwhile, Aaron Henare got a dominant submission victory over former mentor Hiroshi Tanahashi using Ultima. Tonight, ZSJ & Henare meet – with the winner moving to four points.
Aaron Henare Trades Holds With ZSJ
Henare would throw the headkick to start, with ZSJ dodging and getting the takedown for an attempt at a submission. ZSJ would be run down with a shoulder tackle, before Henare would get the deadlift suplex. Henare would get taken down to the mat, as ZSJ would apply the Calf Slicer – but the bottom rope would be found.
ZSJ would kick Henare into the corner, only to have Henare bounce out with the springboard roundhouse kick. The body blows in the ring would lead to the leg kicks before a right hand right to the jaw of ZSJ. Much like ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham, ZSJ is someone who is weak to being punched.
Henare would try to stomp ZSJ, and had his ankle snatched – but was already in the ropes. Camel Clutch would be applied by Henare in the middle of the ring, before this was turned into a heavy curb stomp. Henare would flash the United Empire hand signal during a weak pinfall attempt – before ZSJ would block a snapmare and go right to the neck crank.
Zack Sabre Jr. Gets The Win By The Skin Of His Teeth
Cobra Twist would be applied, the old signature of Antonio Inoki – but Henare blocked with a hip toss. More body blows would follow before a headbutt, but ZSJ remained on his feet before moving into a kneebar. Henare would slip to the floor, where he’d block the strikes of ZSJ and whip him into the barricade.
ZSJ would leap into a chokehold, but Henare would easily block into a suplex. He’d complain about the state of his ribs to the referee, but there’s no time outs in the G1. Back in the ring, Henare would hit the Justice Knee – before the Berzerker Bomb for a two count.
Rampage Tackle was blocked, before ZSJ was rocked with another big strike. Spinning roundhouse would be caught, and ZSJ would stomp both knees of Henare directly into the mat. Henare would sit in the middle of the ring and take a trio of PK’s before rolling to his feet to nail the Rampage Tackle.
Diving senton would follow, before ZSJ would find himself locked in Ultima. He’d slip out briefly, but Henare was determined to apply that hold. The left arm was kicked, but the right hand was there for the body blow. Streets Of Rage was set, but ZSJ would apply the knee bar and moved to the Single Leg Crab to force the tap out.
