El Phantasmo & Will Ospreay are no strangers from each other, having previously met in the Best Of The Super Junior XXVI tournament. ELP was able to defeat Ospreay that night, but Ospreay has changed a lot in the past three years. Now a proper heavyweight, Ospreay is an incredible task for anyone to overcome – and is a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. ELP is keen on becoming a heavyweight by entering the G1 for the first time ever, and defeating Ospreay could be a great start.
El Phantasmo Can’t Play Around With Heavyweights Like Will Ospreay
ELP would mouth off to Ospreay to start the match, while Ospreay started with a shotgun dropkick. Space Flying Tiger Drop would follow, and a Phenomenal Forearm get the two count in the ring. ELP tried to rake the back of Ospreay, and he’d be levelled with a chop.
Ospreay was caught by a springboard crossbody, before heading to the floor and nailed with a suicide dive. A moonsault would follow, before ELP nailed some heavy shots in the corner. Ospreay took the dropkick in the corner, with ELP avoiding the cocky move he usually does to opponents in the tree of woe.
ELP would trade blows with Ospreay before the handspring Blast Kick would send him tumbling to the mat. A massive spinning backbreaker would land, before ELP responded with a body slam and jumping knee drop.
Ospreay would toss ELP aside with a backdrop, before overwhelming him with hard forearm smashes. Hook kick was dodged, before an enziguri landed. OsCutter in the corner was blocked into a reverse Spanish Fly, getting ELP a two count. Hidden Blade was set, but Ospreay had to settle for a powerbomb.
They’d head to the top rope, and ELP got the Superana before the Thunder Kiss saw ELP go across the ring and get nothing but mat. Robinson Special landed, but OsCutter was avoided – allowing ELP to nail Sudden Death for the near fall.
CR2 was blocked, before the Hook Kick landed. Hidden Blade would land, and Ospreay got the win for his first two points. He’s got Yujiro Takahashi next, which should be an easy way to 4 points out of a maximum of 12.
Entering The G1 Climax As Champion Is Dangerous
Jay White is back in the G1 Climax, and he’s carrying the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship into the tournament. This puts a heavy amount of pressure on him, as defeating him in a singles match will give someone a title shot. Tonight, he kicks off B-Block action as he faces SANADA – a man who got his first taste of singles gold earlier this year with the IWGP United States Championship. SANADA has made the finals of the G1 Climax in the past, and defeating White tonight will be a great start towards another finals.
White would stall on the outside, trying to bait the crowd into breaking the silence guidelines. He’d ask for SANADA to open the ropes for him to get back into the ring, and was allowed safe passage – but knew the kick was coming. SANADA was able to block before nailing a dropkick. White rolled to the floor, and Gedo played the distraction to give him time to recovery.
Flatliner into the barricade would punish SANADA, but back in the ring only got a one count. A punch to the ribs would keep SANADA down, before he’d apply a tight waistlock. SANADA fought free, and hit the basement dropkick – finally finding an opening in this match.
Paradise Lock would be applied, and SANADA took the time to hype up the crowd before releasing White with the dropkick. This might have been a mistake, as SANADA was spiked with the DDT. White would follow with Bladebuster, and the Complete Shot into German Suplex was not far behind.
SANADA Comes Close – But Jay White Doesn’t Intend To Lose
Uranage would plant SANADA, before Sleeper Suplex was set. SANADA fought free, and hit the TKO. Skull End would get applied, and Gedo would get on the apron to help White get free. SANADA went into the ropes and took a low blow after White kicked the middle rope.
White would take a low blow for himself soon after, but was able to avoid the moonsault. SANADA would almost get the win after a tight O’Connor Roll – before a new variation of the TKO. White would set up Blade Runner, but was blocked into the European Clutch – with SANADA getting such a close fall.
Skull End was applied, and White attacked the eye before hitting Blade Runner to claim his first two points. Can Jay White win the G1 Climax as champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
