R Kelly has reportedly been put on suicide watch following his 30-year sentencing for sex crimes.
R Kelly Placed On Suicidal Watch-‘Being Run Like A Gulag’
The music star is expected to be released from prison should he complete the prison sentence at the age of 85-years-old.
And as that would take away Kelly’s best years, there are concerns over the singer’s mental health on the basis that he would not be able to adjust to his new surroundings. Although that may be the case, there is nothing to suggest that R Kelly is having any suicidal thoughts.
And yet, steps have been taken in order to make sure that he is kept on watch. Jennifer Bonjean, who happens to be R Kelly’s attorney, has had this to say: “Mr. Kelly was placed on suicide watch for purely punitive reasons in violation of his Eighth Amendment rights.
“MDC has a policy of placing high profile individuals under the harsh conditions of suicide watch whether they are suicidal or not. MDC Brooklyn is being run like a gulag.”
As a result, Kelly’s legal team has come out to argue that such an initiative is in violation of the United States constitution, and therefore it is legal. As a result, steps have already been taken in order to see if this can be removed.
This is the last thing that Kelly needs to see, given that his career is most likely over. Not only that, but with his mounting legal costs have not been helped by the court ordering him to pay a $100,000 fine as part of the sentencing.
The fans on social media did not have a lot of sympathy, however. A certain subset of people were of the view that Kelly had nobody to blame but himself for getting involved in such a thing.
One person wrote: “He broke the law and therefore there must be consequences.” Time will tell how this will play out. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
