After the American rapper, R. Kelly receives a sentence to prison for 30 years for sexual abuse, trafficking, and organized crime, he remains under constant surveillance in prison. The prison authorities are considering his case a risky one, with a high risk of potential suicide.
After being rich and famous, after harassing victims all over the US, now, he is in a position to be in jail and under constant pressure from the media and the broad public. Of course that the situation puts enormous pressure on the rapper’s mental state. This is why the prison authorities determined this measure.
R. Kelly In Risk Of A Suicide – Remains Under Surveillance In Prison
R. Kelly is a music star since the 1990s, and his criminal record dates from the more or less same period as well. He received his sentence on July 1st, nine months after the jury found him guilty. The trial took place over the course of six long weeks. During it, many people did go on the stand to testify against the rapper. They told the world about the hideous deeds that R.Kelly had done. With that, they left a big stain on his name and career.
Contrary to the above, R.Kelly’s lawyers did go to court two days after the sentence is presented and denied all accusations that the singer has suicidal thoughts. They say that the whole surveillance thing is due to the high-profile personality of the singer. “R. Kelly is under surveillance at the Metropolitan Detention Center solely for punitive purposes and due to his status as a high-profile inmate”.
However, according to the prosecutor, this is not as his lawyers state. He shares an argument to confirm that the surveillance is to prevent any harm to the singer. According to him, the whole process affected the singer in a bad way, so he might be expected to reach for his life. A document that the prosecution shared, assures that “the circumstances of his current life undoubtedly caused him emotional distress.”
“He is a convicted sex offender who has been sentenced to spend the next three decades in prison.” – the prosecutor Melanie Speight says.
She also adds that there is additional pressure that the singer might be facing in the following period. He is at the beginning of a new trial in federal court in Chicago as well. This case is related to shooting and sharing child pornography.
As the situation states, R Kelly now has a label of a maniac and a hideous criminal. According to all his victims that took the stand, he should be in prison for good, and not for 30 years only. Even if it is unlikely that he will live up to getting out of prison, the sole chance of him getting out is sending chills to them.
Lizzette Martinez is one of R.Kelly’s victims that took the stand. She shares the opinion of all his victims, stating that he should be in prison for life. When giving an interview for TMZ, Lizzette says that Kelly is highly unlikely to change his character. He proves this by continuing his crimes after the 2008 trial. According to his victims, Kelly deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life. The explanation is that his victims get to live until the end of their life with the bruises that he made to their bodies and minds.
“I was happier than what I heard his lawyer was trying to propose. I think that the situation is that he destroys so many lives for so long that I think 25 is too low,” Martinez says. “We deal with residual side effects. We have to live with this forever. It’s not something that just goes away. Lock him up and throw the key away or put him in jail forever. I would say life. I don’t think he’s ever gonna stop doing what he does.”
Robert Sylvester Kelly, or short R. Kelly, is under conviction and court judging several times. He has convictions for racketeering, sex trafficking, abuse, sexual exploitation of minors and adult women, bribery, weapons possession, etc. Since this gruesome person managed to live free for so long while committing these crimes, he made a ton of money out of it. So the feds now demand a money fine on top of the prison sentence. A fine of $50 000 to $250 000 in addition to the 30 years in prison.
Kitti Jones is one of R.Kelly’s victims as well. She states that regardless of how much time in jail they will give to the rapper, nothing will help her recover from the permanent damage that she has after she met him.
“Before I met Robert Kelly, I was a vibrant, happy, successful radio personality and well-known socialite. I was living the life of my dreams. And then I met him and, like many others, fell for the person who shared his hurts and betrayals of his past. Upon learning those things, I wanted to protect him and earn his trust. I vowed to never speak on my time with him or tell his darkest secrets; I planned to take the things he had done to me to my grave.” – Kitti says on the stand. “Your honor, my hope is that the amount of time being asked by the prosecutors is given. Considering the long list of survivors and our families and the many lives that have been affected and forever changed. Many have been waiting for this day to come.”
What do you think? Is the court’s decision righteous? Is it enough for the committed crimes?
