Three Men Charged with Conspiracy to Sell Lost Handwritten Lyrics and Notes to the Eagles 1977 Album “Hotel California”
Craig Inciardi, Edward Kosinski, and Glenn Horowitz were slapped with fourth-degree conspiracy in the New York Supreme Court. At some time in the late 1970s, the band loaned the album notes to an author who was hired to work on a biography for the Eagles.
However, the band never got those notes back. They were in the possession of the biographer until 2005 when they were sold to Horowitz, a rare books collector. Horowitz would sell them to Inciardi and Kosinski at some point. When Inciardi and Kosinski got the notes, there was an effort to falsify their ownership of them.
The duo listed co-founder Glenn Frey as the person who handed over the ownership to them. Since Frey died in 2016, Horowitz felt that he would make the perfect source of the notes in their ownership document.

Don Henley—vocalist and multi-instrumentalist of the Eagles—found out that the Hotel California notes had not only been recovered but now they were being sold. He filed a police report and told the traders to return them.
Instead, they took the notes through Sotheby’s auction house. The District Attorney’s Office would get the notes from the auction house and Kosinski’s house.
In addition to the fourth-degree conspiracy charge, Horowitz was hit with first-degree attempted criminal possession of stolen property and two counts of second-degree hindering prosecution. Both Inciardi and Kosinski received first-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
The notes to Hotel California are valued at around $1 million. The album would win Record of the Year and Best Vocal Performance for Two or More Voices at the 1978 Grammy Awards.
