Over the past year, we’ve literally seen Ring of Honor revived from the dead. The company was all but shut down in 2021, with Final Battle – End of An Era potentially the final show in the history of the company. However, Tony Khan would announce on an episode of AEW Dynamite that he purchased the company and their tape library. Since then, we’ve seen two PPV events with Supercard of Honor & Death Before Dishonor – both of which remain some of the most watched in company history.
Death Before Dishonor 2022 Is On Track To Be One Of The Most Watched ROH Shows Of All Time
During a media scrum following Death Before Dishonor, Tony Khan would reveal that the PPV had made at least 25k PPV buys, counting only digital purchases through Bleacher Report and FiteTV. This isn’t counting cable and satellite buys. These numbers put it as a Top 4 PPV in the company’s history, and potentially on it’s way to the biggest show in company history.
The huge main events of FTR vs. The Briscoes II & Jonathan Gresham vs. Claudio Castagnoli would really help move PPV sales, and if Khan can continue to put together strong cards in the future – we will only see ROH grow. This is without dedicated ROH weekly TV, which Khan has indicated is in the works.
Big Things Coming In The Future Of Ring Of Honor
They’re also overhauling the HonorClub subscription service, which will likely contain the backlog of ROH shows, and provide a place to watch PPV’s and shows run during the Khan era of the company. Khan has announced The Briscoes are signed to dedicated ROH contracts, with others being signed as well – but not formally announced at this time.
The show would end with FTR standing tall after a 45 minute epic with The Briscoes, and staring down Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta of Blackpool Combat Club, which could indicate the main event of the next ROH special event. Claudio is ROH World Champion, and Yuta is ROH Pure Champion – but it remains to be seen if they can mesh as a tag team to overcome the likes of FTR.
