Theory is keen on proving himself as WWE United States Champion, but angering the likes of former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley was far from his best choice. He’d refuse to give Lashley a title shot, and was taken down for it. Theory got revenge by squirting lotion in the eyes of The All Mighty during a pose down challenge and dropping him with a dropkick, but it will take more than that to retain his championship tonight.
Lashley fought through Otis, Chad Gable and Theory himself in a gauntlet match to earn the title shot, and tonight could look to three time United States Champion. Many have already been looking ahead to Theory potentially defending the belt against John Cena in 28 days, but tonight might be a massive roadblock in those plans.
The Youngest United States Champion In WWE History Faces His Biggest Challenge To Date
The crowd was 100% behind Lashley as this one began, and combined with being tossed across the ring with ease – Theory would start to get frustrated early. He’d run into the ring and right into a spinebuster, before ducking out of the ring and out of the way of a spear. A chop to the throat on the apron would be followed by Theory being launched off the arpon and into the barricade.
Lashley would after Theory on the floor, and was able to drive him into the ring post. Slamming Lashley into the barricade would cause more damage, and Theory would hit a cheap shot to the face. A diving crossbody off the apron was caught into a Fireman’s Carry, before Theory was cracked off the post.
Back into the ring, Lashley would look for the spear, but Theory went into the fetal position. Lashley would pick him up off the mat and toss him around the ring, before taking a heavy clothesline for a one count. Theory would try to stomp Lashley out, and would gain the advantage of the first time in this match.
Bobby Lashley Introduces Austin Theory To The Hurt Lock
Taking Lashley into the corner, Theory would look for the springboard Spanish Fly, but Lashley would stand firm. Lashley would be taken down to the mat and put into a rear chinlock, trying to suck the life out of Lashley. The crowd was still behind Lashley, but Theory would dominate on the mat with this chinlock.
Lashley would power up to his feet, and almost applied The Hurt Lock. Theory slipped free, but was tossed with a suplex. A lariat into the corner would land, before a shoulder tackle. Delayed Suplex was blocked, and Theory rolled to the apron.
A hotshot stunned Lashley, but the rolling dropkick was caught into a press slam – which Lashley turned into a powerslam. Dominator was set up, but Theory slipped out. A drop toehold into the middle turnbuckles was followed by the rolling dropkick, getting a two count!
A-Town Down was set, but Lashley blocked into a roll up. Powerslam would be met with an eye rake, before Theory nailed the spear and looked for A-Town Down. Hurt Lock was the counter, and Lashley wins!
