Next week at Quake By The Lake, we get the rematch that AEW fans have been keen to see since 2020 – as Jon Moxley defends the Interim AEW World Championship against Chris Jericho. They previously clashed over that championship, with Moxley ending the reign of Jericho. However, there’s one stop before we get there – as Jericho was baited into a match against Wheeler Yuta tonight.
Should Yuta claim the biggest win of his career – he will earn the chance to face Moxley instead of Jericho. When asked earlier in the show who Moxley would rather face – he doesn’t care, friend or foe – he will try to end a career next week. It doesn’t matter if it’s the last survivor of the Hart Dungeon, or the first of Blackpool Combat Club – Moxley doesn’t intend to give up the gold.
Chris Jericho Quickly Loses His Backup
In the corner of Yuta tonight is ROH World Champion Claudi Castagnoli, while Jericho brought Daddy Magic & Cool Hand Angelo Parker. Jericho doesn’t need help to win, but he’s a known cheater all the same – and Blackpool Combat Club knows this.
Yuta would go after the broken nose of Jericho to start this match, sending him out to the floor. Parker & Menard would get involved and booted from the arena early, with Aubrey Edwards never having a lot of patience for Jericho. Yuta would get a roll up for a two count, before more strikes to the face of Jericho.
Jericho would catch Yuta on the top rope and leave him crotched on the ropes before having a chance to catch his breath. Yuta would get outplayed, missing a dropkick before a running senton. Jericho would set up the superplex, and nailed it before some mocking Hammer & Anvil elbows.
Wheeler Yuta Is Forced To Tap Out
Yuta & Jericho would both go for running crossbody splashes, and clashed in the middle of the ring. Jericho would be nailed with a trio of German Suplexes, before kicking out and moving into the Walls Of Jericho. Yuta found the bottom ropes, and would toss Jericho to the floor before nailing the suicide dive.
Two more dives would follow, before a crossbody splash in the ring for a near fall. A lariat land for Jericho, but the Lionsault was blocked with a double knee strike. Yuta came off the top rope, and was hit with the codebreaker for a near fall.
Jericho would be taken into the Regal Stretch – with Yuta adding his own twist to the move. Yuta would get low blowed, after Jericho grabbed his baseball bat to distract the referee. Jericho launched for the Judas Effect, before being blocked into the Seatbelt Clutch. Yuta would get a two count, before the Liontamer was applied for the finish.
The hold would be maintained after the bell, until Jon Moxley made the save. Will Chris Jericho reclaim the AEW World Championship belt next week? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
