Injuries in professional wrestling are never good news, but sadly are frequent. It’s been a hard time lately with the likes of Bryan Danielson & CM Punk missing time in AEW. The latest name to join the injured list is Kris Statlander, who is once again on the shelf due to a knee injury.
Kris Statlander Suffers Knee Injury
This was initially announced on air by Excalibur on AEW Dynamite, as he announced that due to injury to Kris Statlander – Toni Storm was once again the #1 contender to the AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa. We’d get more information from Statlander herself, who informed fans that she suffered a knee injury. “One knee fixed, one to go” was what she had to say.
On the bright side of things, it was not the same near she’s previously missed time thanks to – but on the bad side, this means both of her knees have now suffered some serious damage. We have few details on what the timeframe for recovery could be, but she will not be factored into the rest of 2022 for AEW.
Was Potentially On Her Way To Claim The Top Championship
This also comes at a bad time for Statlander, as she was reportedly in line for a major push in the company. She was #1 ranked, and was a likely contender for Thunder Rosa at All Out. With the reign of Rosa quickly becoming on the stale side, it’s likely the title changes at that event. This will now likely put Toni Storm as the next champion, but it very well could have been Statlander.
Injuries have seriously harmed any chance for Statlander to really get the spot she deserves in AEW. She’s been one of their more popular names in the company all the same, which often has fans on social media platforms like Twitter complaining about her lack of a championship legacy in AEW.
We can only hope this is the last time she suffers a major time loss injury. Statlander is someone who puts in the work to come back better than ever with each injury, and will hope to pull off the same this time. She’ll hopefully make a beeline right to the AEW Women’s World Championship, and finally claim the reign she’s earned.
