Demi Lovato Left With ‘Survivors Guilt’ After Surviving Her 2018 Overdose
Survivors’ guilt can result in someone suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. And given what Demo had been through, this is entirely understandable.
She had ended up being in intensive care as a result of the overdose, which she later admitted left her with brain damage. In and amongst that, this included being ‘blind’, having a heart attack and organ failure.
Despite managing to overcome those hurdles, Demi could not help but feel guilty by seeing her friends who were not so lucky in similar situations.
In her comments, she said: “I’ve lost friends that were around my age and those hurt so deeply because we’ve been in the trenches together,. I had a lot of survivor’s guilt after my overdose.
“Because, you know, right after that Mac Miller died, and it just put everything into perspective for me of like that could have been you.”
But after having gone into rehab, Demi made it clear that she was on a journey of redemption. This has been accompanied by her new album, “HOLY FVCK,” which came out on Friday, 19th August 2022.
And it is in her music where Demi has explored her issues with addiction, something which she felt was necessary for her emotional journey.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “Everything that I write about comes from personal experiences, and I had gone through a rough time last year.
“And I went back to treatment, and when I came out, I had all of this unresolved trauma that I hadn’t dealt with.” The fans on social media had a lot to say about Demi’s state of mind.
And they recognised that she had a long way to go before she was fully healed from her setbacks. One person wrote: “She obviously has a number of serious issues. We should pray she seeks, and finds, grace and restoration.”
