Lawrence Rudolph, the 67-year-old dentist accused of shooting his wife while on safari in Zambia was found guilty in Denver, Colorado.
Dentist Lawrence Rudolph Found GUILTY of Murdering Wife Following African Safari in 2016
In October 2016, Bianca Rudolph was shot in their cabin while packing. The couple was getting ready to return to the U.S when she was killed. That’s where the story splits. Rudolph’s lawyer based his argument on the possibility that she accidentally shot herself.
The prosecution ran with Lawrence Rudolph murdering Bianca so that he could be with his girlfriend. David Markus, Rudolph’s friend/lawyer pointed out that their relationship was of the open persuasion.
How Was Bianca Rudolph Shot?
Bianca was killed with a Browning 12-gauge shotgun. The angle of the gunshot was everything here. According to Rudolph’s defense, Bianca dropped the gun while packing and was shot through the heart. Lawrence said he heard the gunshot while in the bathroom.
U.S Assistant Attorney Bryan Fields said that this version of her death doesn’t match up with the evidence as the gun was fired a bit above her and a few feet away from her.
What Would’ve Been Lawrence Rudolph’s Motive
Bianca was cremated three days after her death. It was so suspicious that the U.S Embassy in Zambia—to whom Rudolph reported the death—told the FBI that it seemed fishy.
In a motion filed by David Markus, it was mentioned that Rudolph didn’t need to kill Bianca for money as his dental practice was worth $10 million and he was worth $15 million. However, her life insurance policy paid out $4.6 million.
Also worth noting is that Rudolph called in a life insurance claim the day before his wife’s funeral. The following day, he and his girlfriend Lori Milliron headed to Las Vegas. A little while later, Milliron moved in with Rudolph.
Everything about this case was Spousal Murder 101 with a murder overseas, life insurance payouts, quick funerals, a girlfriend who moves in, and everyone else being suspicious of him except the family of the accused.
It sounds similar in a few ways to the newlywed murder trial where Christe Chen was killed in Fiji at the Turtle Island resort. Also of note, Lori Milliren was found guilty of being an accessory after the fact of the murder, two counts of perjury, and obstruction of a jury. Milliren got off on two other counts of perjury.
