With the release of AEW Fight Forever getting closer, we’re getting a slew of new information about the first console offering from AEW. We’ve already known it was being worked on by industry veterans with Yukes, and that Kenny Omega has been one of the creative minds behind the project. They’ve gotten THQ Nordic as a publisher, and the game will release on with Playstation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series S/X, PC, and Nintendo Switch. However, we also have some new gameplay details – courtesy of the recently added listing on the Steam storefront on PC.
Online Co-Op & Wrestler Customization Confirmed For AEW Fight Forever
While the basic features of a wrestling game were expected, we now have confirmation of many extra details in this game. They have set up a tag team system as an important element of the game, which makes sense given how important the tag team scene in AEW has been since day one. Online co-op was formally announced, as well as customization modes – allowing you to change attires, entrances and movesets of wrestling to your liking.
Create-A-Wrestler has also been announced, allowing for you to create missing AEW names, as well as WWE wrestlers and whatever your brain can think up using the available options to use in the game. This is a standard feature in big budget wrestling games, but it was nice to see it properly confirmed.
Cody Rhodes To Be Involved With Deep Career Mode
A ‘deep career mode’ was announced, with teases at it following the creation of AEW. Cody Rhodes is a major player in the career mode, and has been kept in the game despite having signed a new contract with WWE. Kenny Omega didn’t want Rhodes’ contributions to the creation of AEW to be erased, and he’s been confirmed to have not been removed from the roster.
Also announced are match types like Casino Battle Royale and Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch – in addition to the expected array of Ladder, Tables, and Cage matches. Over 40 weapons have been teased, and mini-games were also announced – with a baseball game shown in screenshots.
All of this comes together to support the hopes of fans to finally have a true alternative to the WWE 2K series. While WWE 2K22 was a set in the right direction, this game is seemingly set to cater to fans of games like WWF No Mercy – and that nostalgia might be used to push sales.
