On December 27th, 1987 – Big Van Vader made his NJPW debut – running through Antonio Inoki in 2:49, and causing a riot. This monster ran through the ace of the company in fast order, and put his name on the map of professional wrestling. Tonight, that is the plan of JONAH as he gets a chance to main event tonight’s G1 Climax action against Kazuchika Okada.
Okada has been calling back to Inoki with the enziguri lately, while JONAH has been looking to prove he’s the modern version of Vader. History could well repeat itself, especially as Okada realised the power of JONAH in a tag team clash last night. This could be the breakout moment for JONAH in NJPW, but Okada will not fall easily. If JONAH wants to call himself the Top Dog – tonight is where he proves it.
JONAH Challenges Okada To Take Him Down
JONAH would take the middle of the ring to start, and daring Okada to step up. Okada would lock up with JONAH, but was thrown off before ending up in a tight headlock. JONAH would hold the ground as Okada tried to throw him towards the ropes – and would absorb the elbows to the midsection and stomps to the foot. Okada got momentary control of the headlock, and was shoved off the ropes and hit with a shoulder tackle.
JONAH would look for a dive off the apron, before Okada side stepped and drove JONAH into the barricade. A suplex on the ramp from Okada would be blocked, and JONAH hit the standing splash to topple The Rainmaker. JONAH would whip Okada into the barricade twice, before stomping all his weight onto Okada in the ring.
A tight waist lock would be applied, but Okada fought free. He’d try to trade chops with JONAH but found little success. Three running back elbows would finally drop JONAH, before the DDT out of the corner. The trip onto the middle rope would follow, and Okada would hit the DDT on the floor.
Kazuchika Okada Falls To The Top Dog
JONAH got some aid from Bad Dude Tito, only for Okada to soar over the top rope and took them both out with the dive. Back in the ring, JONAH nailed a spear and senton splash – and Okada kicked out at two. Money Clip would be applied, but JONAH would refuse to quit. Instead, he’d be dropped with a shotgun dropkick.
JONAH was put on the top rope, and he’d come down with the body block. A burning lariat would follow, but Okada would get back to his feet and hit the dropkick. Okada would body slam JONAH, and the elbow drop would follow. Rainmaker Pose was struck, but JONAH was the one to hit the lariat.
Okada was put on the top rope, and he’d come off with the dropkick attempt before being caught in the powerbomb. Black Forest Bomb would get the fans cheering – and the Torpedo had them in a frenzy – the loudest a NJPW crowd has been since restrictions was put in place. After this, JONAH is a made man.
