A new bombshell book by Tom Bower is suggesting that Prince William once told Prince Harry that his wife, Kate Middleton, ‘could be friendlier’ to Meghan Markle. The book, titled, Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, is said to be full of all kinds of behind-the-scenes conversations that have taken place between members of the royal family.
The alleged exchange between Harry and William took place while Harry and Meghan were preparing to visit Australia and New Zealand in 2018. Bower proposes the notion that Harry wanted Meghan to receive the same amount of respect as his late mother, Princess Diana.

“Members of their family, said Harry, were not showing her [Meghan] sufficient support, respect, or friendship,” Bower wrote in the book. “Meghan, Harry believed, should be just as appreciated as their mother”. But Prince William did not have the reaction that Prince Harry had hoped for. “William’s reply was not sympathetic,” noted Bower.
There had already been some noticeable tension between the brothers by 2018, and Harry trying to force others to be nice to his wife certainly didn’t help. However, Bower notes that at that time “beyond the palaces, few were aware of the split between the brothers”. He also referenced the fact that William was even given the title of ‘best man’ at Harry’s wedding to Meghan.
But a kinship between Kate and Meghan never exactly blossomed, as media outlets reported that Meghan had reduced Kate to tears during a bridesmaid dress fitting. During an infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Markle insinuated that it was actually Kate who made her cry.
Royal expert Charlotte Griffiths predicts that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will go ‘apoplectic’ over the release of Bower’s new book, while suggesting that they might keep mum about their growing fury. “They’ll probably just say, ‘oh, it’s just noise in public’ but, you know, they will be reading every single word. They’ve probably finished it by now,” she said. Griffiths also believes that Harry and Meghan “Probably asked Sunshine Sachs to get someone to read it as well and, to go through, and see where they can, you know, get their lawyers out.”
While Tom Bower has already been receiving ample attention for his astonishing claims about Harry and Meghan, he’s also gotten significant backlash. The author has been accused of making false claims in his exposé, royal commentator Kristen Meinzer took to Twitter to say that Bower had never interviewed her and that he had misused quotes from other outlets without permission.
Journalist Sam Kashner also outwardly denied Bower’s claim that he felt manipulated by Markle while interviewing her for Vanity Fair in 2017. Bower further claims that Markle’s attitude completely changed after meeting Prince Harry and that she became insufferable to work with on the set of Suits…but several of Meghan’s co-workers have debunked those claims.
“Some actors and staff discovered that Meghan’s attitude occasionally shifted. Sometimes she arrived late and her empathy morphed into near-arrogance,” Bower wrote. Assistant director of the show, Derek Ursacki, came to Meghan’s defense, saying, “She was always a pleasure to work with and was always kind with a huge heart, easy going, humble even after the fame of the show and her popularity skyrocketed, so full of life, so giving, supportive and funny”.
Now that Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors has been released, it’s no wonder that Meghan Markle’s PR team is in full-blown damage control mode.
