Shia LaBeouf has opened up on his recent decision to convert to Catholicism.
Shia LaBeouf Converted To Catholicism After Considering Suicide-‘I Had A Gun On The Table, I Didn’t Want To Be Alive”
The actor made the decision after having been cast to play the role of an Italian monk in the movie ‘Padre Pio.’ During the course of that process, Shia had to research the life of a monk extensively in order to prepare for the role.
As a result, the actor became fascinated with spirituality. This was particularly pertinent to him since he admitted considering suicide at one point in his life.
In his comments, he said: “I had a gun on the table. I was outta here. I didn’t want to be alive anymore when all this happened. Shame like I had never experienced before — the kind of shame that you forget how to breathe.
“You don’t know where to go. You can’t go outside and get like, a taco.” That is when Shia realised that something had to change in his life. He decided to remove his focus from the material aspects that were in his life.
And after having gotten closer to God, he was of the view that this was all a divine plan. Once he understood the concept of forgiveness, he was able to battle his demons and heal himself.
His following comments confirmed as much: “I know now that God was using my ego to draw me to Him. Drawing me away from worldly desires. It was all happening simultaneously.”
The fans on social media praised Shia for being so open about his troubles. And his story serves as an example to others who may be going through similar issues that it is possible to overcome anything.
One person wrote: “He’s no longer divided. Good job Shia!” while another person stated: “Peace be with you.” It is great to see the actor in a much better place and hopefully going forward things continue to stay that way.
