Meghan Markle has been slammed over her comments about the accommodation she was staying in during her royal South African tour.
#VoetsekMeghan’ Goes Viral On Twitter As South Africans Tell Meghan Markle To ‘Go Away’
The Duchess of Sussex’s comments came on her ‘Archetypes’ podcast where she was having a conversation with Serena Williams.
During the course of that process, Meghan recalled an incident where her son Archie was lucky not to have been damaged by a fire since he was not in the room.
But in and amongst that, she described the accommodation as a ‘housing unit.’ And it was the fact that Meghan had referred to the accommodation in that manner which caused people to feel outraged.
This was understandable for the following reasons. First of all, there was a perception of entitlement at the expense of the royal duties which ultimately should have taken precedent.
Secondly, since the fire did not actually harm Archie, people were of the view that the Duchess of Sussex had exaggerated everything for clout on her podcast.
In her comments at the time, Meghan said: “The moment we landed, we had to drop him off at this housing unit that they had had us staying in.
“He was going to get ready to go down for his nap… We get in the car and they say there’s been a fire at the residence.”

As a result, the phrase ‘#VoetsekMeghan’ began trending on Twitter. This is allegedly an offensive term which means ‘go away.’ And by the looks of it, the comments on social media were very derogatory indeed.
A significant proportion of people slammed the Duchess of Sussex. One person wrote: “So after the supposed fire, Meghan could have taken Archie to their engagements in South Africa.
“Catherine did it in Australia and New Zealand without issue. Why could she not? You know why? Because then it would no longer be just about her! #VoetsekMeghan.”
This has seriously damaged Meghan’s PR, and it is something she will have to put to bed. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
