Earlier today, a rumor would begin to circulate around the Smackdown Live debut of NXT 2.0 faction – Toxic Attraction. We now have a better idea of just why they’re showing up in Montreal – as Jacy Jayne & Gigi Dolin are set to replace NXT 2.0’s Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament.
Injury To Zoey Stark Puts Toxic Attraction Into Tag Team Championship Hunt
No stranger to tag team gold, Dolin & Jayne are former two time NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, and a perfect fit for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament. Fans were confused as to why they weren’t in the field initially, given this was a perfect chance to call up the tag team to the WWE ‘main roster’.
However, a reported injury to Zoey Stark following her NXT Women’s Championship match during NXT 2.0 Heatwave has put them back into the mix. Stark is just returning from a serious leg injury, so WWE might just be operating on the side of caution when it comes to her condition, not wanting her to potentially miss more time.
Another possible reason for Stark & Lyons not making the show tonight could have to do with the vaccination status of Lyons. She’s reportedly not been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, and that will make it hard to travel – let alone across the United States/Canada border.
Mandy Rose To Cross Paths With Sonya Deville Once Again
Stark & Lyons were never viewed as potential victors in the tournament, with it more meant to fill out the field. They were set to face Natalya & Sonya Deville tonight to begin their tournament, and the match will now see Toxic Attraction face Natalya & Deville.
This gives an interesting chance for storytelling, with Toxic Attraction leader Mandy Rose having previously formed a tag team with Sonya Deville – known as Fire & Desire. Deville was sent packing from WWE during Summerslam 2020, in a loser leaves town match against Rose – but found her way back into the mix as a WWE official, before returning to the ring.
