Right now, things are moving into the right direction for WWE. Their in-ring product got an instant boost from Triple H taking charge of the creative division of the company, and the effects have been seen on Monday Night RAW & Smackdown Live. However, one show that needs no help in the in-ring category is NXT UK. Over the past few years, NXT UK has remained one of the most steady shows in the world – with a solid roster constantly giving their all. Sadly, the future of this brand might now be in question.
WWE Fails To Get BT Sports Studio For Two Upcoming Tapings
A report from the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter would state that two upcoming tapings of NXT UK were recently cancelled. Their home base of BT Sports Studio was unavailable due to upcoming soccer coverage, but this has still let to a sense of unease in the roster and crew of the brand.
It’s not hard to find a venue to tape in, and would have made more sense to see WWE simply move the tapings elsewhere instead of flat out cancelling them. NXT UK is a show often taped far in advance – giving a buffer period, but tapings being cancelled is never a good sign for a show that relies upon them.
Still Supplying WWE With Stars For Bigger Shows
We have a few NXT UK stars set to make their NXT 2.0 debuts soon, with both Charlie Dempsey and the Gallus factions making their way to the United States. NXT UK’s main value has been getting names TV ready for the bigger shows of NXT, and this will once again be seen here. Previously, the likes of Ridge Holland, GUNTHER, Pete Dunne, and Pretty Deadly have all moved from NXT UK to NXT 2.0 and beyond.
It’s unlikely even if WWE shuts down NXT UK that the WWE Performance Center in the region would halt operations, but booking outside venues for the NXT UK product could crawl to a halt. WWE already nearly exclusively runs NXT 2.0 out of the Performance Center, and that could be the future of NXT 2.0 as well, helping to cut down on production costs.
