One of the most famous smiles in the world is not of a person you’d think of. On the list of most famous smiles, amongst the celebrities with incredibly beautiful smiles, we can find one that differs from them all. Differs because it is a smile portrayed on a drawing back in 1503. It is Davinci’s Mona Lisa half-smile.
Past Sunday, the 29th of May, a man tries to obscure this famous Renaissance painting. While attending the museum and admiring the view, as a sign of a protest, a man wearing a wig to disguise himself throws a piece of cake at the painting.
Man Wearing A Wig Throws Cake At Mona Lisa Painting In Louvre, Paris
According to him, he did not have an intention to destroy the painting or cause any damage whatsoever to the museum. However, he had his reasons. He does this to spread his word to the world. He did it to warn the world of climate change and to raise the awareness of the people regarding the rising temperatures.
Luckily, the exhibited painting had bulletproof glass over it protecting it from such events. It passes the attack unharmed and still in the same condition. However, the attacker fulfills his goal. The event raises much attention worldwide. The social media networks are full of videos and photos of the event.
The visitors that witness the event claim that the attacker was disguised as an elderly woman in a wheelchair. He uses this disguise to get to the front rows of the public near the Renaissance painting so he can get a clearer shot at it.
Next, as the security officers grab him by the arms he throws red roses at their feet. As they take him away he faces the crowd and yells in French: ‘Think about the Earth. There are people who are destroying the Earth. Think about it! All artists, think about the Earth — this is why I did this. Think about the planet.”
The Paris prosecutor issues a statement that the attacker undergoes an interview in a psychiatric unit. This will determine whether he has some psychiatric condition.
After this, an investigation might lead to charges for damage to cultural artifacts. If the psychiatric unit finds that he is completely sane and healthy, he might face a fine of up to ‘half the price of the object he tried to damage’ plus a prison sentence of more than five years.
We must say that this is a very bold move to take in order to raise awareness for something that affects the whole world. Does he care more about the world than all of us, or he simply didn’t plan the situation thoroughly?
Do you think that this will raise the awareness of climate change?
