Jordan Peterson is a controversial character by nature. However, he is very well-spoken and thought through. He is vocal when it comes to genders, looks, gender equality, and beauty and that is why he gets into trouble often.
According to Axios, YouTube starts following Twitter’s example and now started ‘boycotting’ the famous psychologist by demonetizing his videos. Allegedly, at least two controversial videos on his Youtube channel stopped showing ads. We are speaking about videos in which he discusses some very ‘hot’ topics at the moment. Eliot Page’s misgendering and another video in which he compares Nazi experiments on people with medical care for transgender people.
YouTube Demonetizes Jordan Peterson’s Account – Are They Following Twitter’s Example?
Jordan Peterson, as controversial as he is holds a massive pool of fans and followers who react to such radical moves on social media. And to be honest, this move is opening a greater debate and a greater field for arguing for his supporters and those who think differently.
The ones that support his views, will of course complain about why YouTube demonetized their ‘favorite’ professor. While others, that think differently will wonder and complain about why YouTube didn’t delete the videos completely.
Twitter, pioneered in censoring the controversial professor. They ordered Jordan to delete the misgendering tweets directed to Elliot Page back in June. They do this since the policy of the social media is targeting misgendering and offending trans people as unlawful speech and advocate for muting those conversations completely.
After the dispute with Twitter, Peterson decides to upload a 15-minute video on YouTube criticizing the social media and their censorship. To be more offensive, in the video Jordan continues referring to Elliot Page with the ‘wrong’ name and gender. He spoke about transgender people, and criticized gender-affirming medical practices.
The American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Psychiatric Association –are all pro-gender-affirming care. This, in Jordan Peterson’s eyes is completely wrong.
“It’s at the level of the Gulag and Auschwitz. Nazi medical experiment level incorrectness.” – he states.
Both controversial videos are still online, but they are completely demonetized. No one will get money from them. However, Peterson does continue to get money from ads on all his other videos. He is a pretty popular character on social media. Peterson has about 5.4 million subscribers on his main profile on Youtube and has hundreds of videos on his account.
“We set a high bar for what videos can make money on YouTube.” – YouTube officials say for Axios. “Many videos allowed on YouTube are not eligible to monetize because they do not meet our ad-friendly guidelines. Peterson’s two videos violate our advertising policies around hateful and derogatory content, and have been demonetized.”
