Chris Jericho is one of the most storied champions in professional wrestling history – but there’s one company where he’s never held gold. Ring of Honor has never had Chris Jericho on their roster, and he’s never really had a chance to claim the ROH World Championship – until now. He would challenge Claudio Castagnoli for a match here tonight at Grand Slam, and Claudio is the very definition of a fighting champion. Can he stop Jericho from claiming another world championship?
Claudio Castagnoli Enters His Fifth Title Defence As ROH World Champion
Jericho would accept the Code of Honor as this match began, with a slap to the face added in by Jericho. Claudio would respond with a flurry of uppercuts into the corner, before throwing Jericho from corner to corner with the running variants. Jericho was lifted into a Gorilla Press, and dropped crotch first on the top rope before being sent to the floor with a big boot.
Claudio would follow to the floor and hit the running uppercut, before Jericho would use ROH Hall of Famer Cary Silkin as a human shield. This would allow Jericho to get a brief advantage, before coming off the top rope and being caught with an uppercut. Jericho would regain the advantage in the ring, but wasted time taunting before looking for the triangle dropkick, and catching an uppercut.
Claudio would look for a suplex on the apron, but Jericho blocked before they traded forearm shots. Jericho would get the suplex, and both men crashed down to the floor. They’d get back into the ring before the twenty count, before Jericho would hit the backdrop suplex for a two count.
Claudio would go for the always reliable uppercuts, before missing one in the corner. Jericho would catapult him into the bottom rope throat first, but was unable to maintain the advantage. Two boots to the face would drop Jericho like a sack of bricks, before Claudio would roll up to the top rope.
Chris Jericho Doesn’t Know The Meaning Of Honor
He’d be unable to fly as Jericho would catch him with some strikes before trying to the Superana. Claudio would try to block into the Ricola Bomb, but Jericho reveresed at the last second into the hurricarana for a two count. Jericho would look for the Codebreaker, but Claudio caught him and turned it into a pop up uppercut.
Claudio would hit the Hammer & Anvil Elbow strikes, before the giant swing was blocked – but the double stomp was not. Sharpshooter would be applied, but Jericho found the bottom rope. Jericho looked for a low blow, but was blocked and hit with the Ricola Bomb – and was somehow able to kick out.
Some crown knee strikes to the midsection would follow from Claudio, before a heavy handed chop. Claudio looked for the springboard uppercut, but was caught with the Codebreaker for a near fall. The Walls Of Jericho would be attempted, but Claudio broke free and stomped Jerichos head in.
Giant Swing would follow, with around 20 rotations followed by a slingshot into the corner. Claudio nailed a lariat, but only got two before Jericho would grab his bat. This was a ruse to hit the low blow and the Judas Effect for the very dishonorable victory.
