Tony Khan promised some surprises at AEW Grand Slam, and Saraya making her debut was exactly that. Formerly known as Paige in WWE, she is one of the people credited with forcing WWE to take women’s wrestling more seriously, before the Four Horsewomen truly made it a revolution. Saraya has been retired due to a neck injury, but could be ready to return to the ring in AEW – and promises some fans answers here tonight.
Saraya Is Damaged, But Not Broken – And Promises Revolution
Saraya would get a massive reaction from the crowd as Justin Roberts welcomed her down to the ring. She’s a former two time world champion, and she had chills after that reaction. With a microphone in hand, she’d remind everyone that she is back. When asking if the fans missed her, it would be a resounding yes.
She would address that she is damaged, yes – but not broken. Saraya plans to bring revolution to the AEW women’s division like she did to WWE. She’d call the women’s division to come out to the stage, and Toni Storm, Athena, Skye Blue, Willow Nightingale, and Madison Rayne hit the ring.
Saraya would once again promise change, and was ready to re-introduce them to the crowd. Storm is finally being used to her full potential, a fighting champion – the best champion AEW has ever seen. However, Britt Baker would interrupt, saying that she’s been putting her neck on the line for AEW… and unlike Saraya’s, her’s can actually handle it. Saraya’s comeback was that Britts name rhymes with shit, which isn’t wrong.
Baker would try to hype up Deeb ahead of her title shot, but the crowd just wanting Jamie Hayter instead. Deeb wouldn’t get a chance to hit the ring before Saraya would speak again, and said that now with a boss that listens to her – this is now a lumberjack match.
Toni Storm Fights Hard To Retain Her Title
Last week at AEW Grand Slam, Toni Storm was able to walk away still holding the Interim AEW Women’s World Championship. Britt Baker was the one to take the fall in the Fatal Four Way match, with Serena Deeb coming close on numerous occasions. Still having a pinfall victory over Storm, Deeb is owed a one on one match with Storm with the belt on the line. Tonight, she will get that chance – as Storm will make another defence as champion.
They’d lock up in the middle of the ring, with Storm applying a tight side headlock. Deeb would be able to turn this around – before being sent to the floor. The lumberjacks would send her back, where Storm would take her to the top rope – and Deeb took her down with a bulldog. Storm was thrown to the floor, and Baker & Hayter got some stomps in.
Back in the ring, Deeb would stomp on the face of Storm – before the champion would come back with some heavy elbow strikes. Storm went up top and hit the crossbody, getting a two count. Deeb would try and roll to the floor, but would be tossed right back in. Storm would go for the hip attack, but Deeb avoided into a pinfall before a submission was applied in the middle of the ring.
On the floor, Hayter & Nightingale got into a brawl and fought to the back. In the ring, Deeb would apply the Serenity Lock – but Storm survived and found the ropes. Single Leg Crab would be applied next, but Storm broke free and hit the Storm Zero Piledriver for the near fall. An avalanche piledriver would follow, and Storm would walk away with the belt.
