Lately, there’s been a lot of chatter about what will become of Malakai Black in AEW. There were many reports of him being unhappy in the company, which might have been due to injury – or a lack of satisfaction in how he was presented in AEW. However, following his latest match in the company at All Out – Malakai Black would be granted his release from AEW. This came with a big condition however.
Malakai Black Is Released From His AEW Contract – But Can’t Sign With WWE For Potentially Five Years
As of the time of writing, if Malakai Black remained with AEW – he had five years left on his contract. He signed a six year deal when he entered the company back in 2021, and only completed one year of that contract. Now, with his release from AEW – it comes with the condition that he can not sign with WWE. An exact timeframe for that is not clear at this time, but could well be for the remaining duration of his AEW contract.
This might be a non-issue for Black however, as reports prior to his release indicated that he was looking into an extended hiatus from professional wrestling regardless. He was looking to get some serious time off to get his physical and mental health back into a good place, and WWE is historically not a great place to do that.
What Will Become Of The House Of Black?
Another question from this is “what will become of The House Of Black”, the faction that Black formed around himself in AEW. Brody King, Buddy Matthews & Julia Hart are all still with AEW – and expected to continue this gimmick in some form. There’s a chance for a new leader to be added, with a leading name being Christopher Daniels going back to his ‘Fallen Angel’ character, and just acting as a mouthpiece for the group.
Julia Hart could also find a bigger role, and could use House Of Black to push her to the AEW Women’s or TBS Championship. It’s likely regardless of future plans, House of Black will be off TV for a short period while changes are finalised backstage in AEW. With much of the focus on the issues between CM Punk & The Elite – this might well have been placed on the back burner.
