Last night was another fantastic PPV offering from All Elite Wrestling, and while a lot of drama has followed surrounding CM Punk – there’s something else that almost got lost in the shuffle. Malakai Black is stepping away from the ring, and potentially the industry as a whole following last night’s trios match.
Malakai Black Has Been Struggling With Injury For Two Years, Took A Bow After All Out Match
It’s been a weird few weeks to follow regarding the status of Malakai Black, who signed with AEW back in 2021. He would reveal that he’s been working through a nasty back injury for around the past two years, which had him considering stepping away from the professional wrestling industry. This came along with some mental health troubles, as he was unable to do the job he loves.
Last night, he teamed with Brody King & Buddy Matthews in a trios match against Darby Allin, Miro & Sting – in a losing effort. Following the match, Black would hug it out with King & Matthews atop the stage – before taking a bow for the fans in the arena. In the media scrum following the show, Khan would be asked what this meant – but he would refuse to comment on behalf of Black.
An AEW Star Was Reported To Be Taking Extended Break
This is following a report from Fightful that an AEW star had been in talks to take an extended break following All Out. All signs point towards that being Black, who by all reports – could use a few months off to get his head into the right space to figure out his future. House Of Black might well continue with the trio of Matthews, King & Julia Hart – or AEW could find a new direction for these three wrestlers.
Regardless of what comes next, the physical and mental health of Black takes precedence over the entertainment of fans. Khan forcing Black to keep going would just lead to more burn out – and the AEW roster is healthy enough to allow for as long of a break as Black needs.
