In another win for the U.S Customs and Border Protection agency, border agents in Tuscon, Arizona seized $4.3 million in fentanyl on August 30, 2022. The total weight came out to 187 pounds across 340 packages.
Arizona Border Patrol Agents Score $4.3 Million Fentanyl Bust in Tucson
According to the CBP, the bust went down on Interstate 8 during a traffic stop. During a gander inside the white Chevy Equinox, agents spotted a number of duffle bags. It was also mentioned that the driver was nervous during questioning and that both women in the car were Americans.
The driver would content to a search which is when the Tuscon sector agents happened upon a load of fentanyl pills. From the statement:
“After receiving her consent to search the vehicle, agents found three bags containing packages wrapped in black tape and cellophane as well as coated in axle grease, a technique often used to mask the scent of drugs. Further investigation revealed 340 packages of fentanyl pills weighing a grand total of 187 pounds and worth an estimated $4.3 million.”
The amount seized was enough to kill about 42,410,900 citizens, according to the USDA. As expected, the driver and her passenger were both hit with drug charges, and the case was tossed to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
“I am grateful for the incredible work by Border Patrol agents to keep drugs off our streets. Their efforts will save lives and promote safety,” said Sheriff Paul Penzone.”
