The Veterans International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas was the site of a cocaine seizure with the amount coming out to 16 pounds. On September 20, 2022, border agents stopped an older model Ford vehicle entering the United States via Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
Authorities Seize Over $211K in Cocaine in Texas Border Arrest
The driver was identified as “a 19-year-old male United States citizen who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico” who reached the Brownsville Port of Entry and was directed to the dreaded inspection area.
As mentioned before, once the vehicle is waved over to the second inspection spot the whole thing is cooked. The driver might as well look forward to prison because the initial inspection raised enough suspicion that they will find whatever is being smuggled.
It’s their job and they have all day to search if necessary. Sure enough, border agents found 15.82 pounds of coke in seven packages via non-intrusive inspection or the NII system. The total amount has a street value of $211,203.
Border Patrol seized the drugs and tossed the smuggler to Homeland Security who will investigate him further. Tater Ortiz, port director in Brownsville said of the drug seizure:
“Our officers use multiple law enforcement tools to keep dangerous narcotics from entering our country and their effective implementation led to this drug seizure.”
