Elon Musk was asked to submit all his text message conversations from months ago to the court in Delaware. And he surely did so. The text messages reveal that at one point he texted one of his bankers that he should put the deal on hold due to a bizarre reason. He suggested that it “wouldn’t make sense to buy Twitter if we’re heading into world war three”.
At the Delaware Chancery court on Tuesday, the billionaire’s representatives and Twitter lawyer held a three-hour session. During the session, Twitter was trying to prove that the bots concern is just a facade for breaking the deal. And they surely found something to grab onto. Twitter’s representatives showed messages between Elon Musk and one of his Morgan Stanley bankers, Michael Grimes.
Elon Musk Asked For The Twitter Deal To Be Delayed Due To ‘World War III Concerns – Elon’s Leaked Text Messages Suggest
The exchange between the two happened on the 8th of May, just weeks after Musk agreed on the price of $54.2 per share. This was approximately two months after the Russian-Ukrainian war started.
“Let’s slow down just a few days. Vladimir Putin’s speech tomorrow is extremely important. It won’t make sense to buy Twitter if we’re heading into world war three.” – Tesla’s CEO wrote.
Elin Musk’s legal team described this as a ‘money quotation’.
This revelation of information comes now, months after Elon decided to walk away from the deal. Now, both parties are giving 100% to prove that they are right so the court can judge for their benefit. Both parties had already subpoenaed investors, bankers, and whoever was involved in the deal somehow or can alter the judge’s decision their way.
From Twitter, they are not ‘buying’ Musk’s claim that he is concerned about the bots. They can’t be convinced that he tries to get out of the deal due to the spam/fake accounts question. According to them, Musk’s backing off is due to the protection of his financial interests as the stock market is on a constant downline recently.
The court hearing also included Elon Musk’s request to include the alleged claims of the former Twitter executive turned whistleblower. Last month, the ex-Twitter executive claimed that the company was constantly misleading investors and regulators about user security practices.
Another of Elon Musk’s wishes was to delay the trial set for October 17th for a few weeks. The reason behind the request was so he can revise the lawsuit and conduct further investigations about the company.
Twitter, completely counters Musk’s stance on the situation. Twitter’s lawyers state that every postponement of the lawsuit will fuel the fall of the company’s price. They even point out that the accusations of Peiter Zatko are not meeting the legal standard to nullify the merger agreement even if they are true.
Elon Musk’s lawyers accuse Twitter of putting the blame on Musk when in reality it is their own misconduct. They stand firmly on their position that the court should entitle Musk to seek further information or investigation on the matter.
Twitter also asked for Musk to receive a sanction for taking too long to produce the text messages requested. According to them, this amounted to misconduct. In addition, Twitter’s lawyer asked the court to order Musk to turn over his email conversations with his lawyers as well.
