That is according to royal expert Neil Sean. The pair reunited at Windsor with their respective husbands, Prince William and Prince Harry, in order to pay their respects for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
It was quite clear, however, that things were frosty between Middleton and Markle, as they did not communicate. In comparison, the reaction between William and Harry was a lot smoother.
With that being said, it seemed that Kate was looking to protect herself. In his comments, Neil said: “She [Kate] was indeed terrified and wanted Meghan to keep away from her.
“Simply, because she felt that whatever was said, discussed, even an informal chat, could have been leaked out.”
Those comments may hold some weight when we look at Meghan’s approach towards Kate in the past. During the controversial Oprah Winfrey interview, Meghan made it clear that Kate made her cry in the run up to her wedding.
While that has been disputed since then, with Tom Bower suggesting the opposite happened, the fact of the matter is that it was leaked out to the public. So there may have been genuine reasons for Kate to avoid Meghan.
Neil’s following comments confirmed as much: “I’m not suggesting, and neither was Catherine I might point out, that even small talk, but you seemingly never know.
“As we told you recently, Gayle King seemingly had a hotline to whatever was going on.” The sentiment on social media was much the same.
A certain subset of people were of the view that Kate was justified in the manner that she had acted, as it was done to protect herself. One person wrote: “Who wouldn’t. Well done Kate @KensingtonRoyal.”
