Due to the affluence of their families, these ladies could accept this lifelong, unpaid position that required them to assist the queen with the obligations of being a monarch daily.
A royal historian named Marlene Koenig stated, “There are some positions that may no longer be filled. You wonder if the women, especially Queen Camilla, will use ladies-in-waiting as the queen did. She’s never had an official lady-in-waiting, even as the Duchess of Cornwall.” Koening also told Express that when Parker Bowles assumed office following the queen’s death, she might have appointed a woman to it.
She hasn’t done it yet, though. The absence of ladies-in-waiting by Queen Camilla indicates that she may change the custom, according to Koening. “I think it also could be to stress that they’re not totally relying on people in the nobility,” she added. She pointed out that neither Parker Bowles nor Kate Middleton had appointed ladies-in-waiting and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, who wed Prince Edward, hadn’t either.
