A Rhode Island sex offender has been indicted by a grand jury for trying to hire a hitman to kill the 12-year-old girl he attempted to have sex with in December 2021.
Chandler Cardente (28) received his registered sex offender status after trying to meet up with the girl after chatting on social media in early December. Cardente would be arrested a week after initiating contact.
The 28-year-old has previous charges dating back to 2014 for molestation and failed to register as a sex offender in 2020.

In early February 2022, while Chandler Cardente was locked up, he called his would-be hitman for $200 in cash and roughly $1,500 in equipment. He told the potential assailant that the young girl needed “to end up dead” since she was a witness to his crime.
Cardente was charged on September 14, 2022 for enticement of a minor, committing a felony offense involving a minor—while being a registered sex offender, and interstate murder-for-hire. The last charge has a little extra on it since electronic communication was used and the hitman was likely out-of-state.
If Cardente is convicted, he could face a maximum of life behind bars. His mandatory jail time would be ten years. Since he offended while being registered as a sex offender, he was on the line for the mandatory ten years anyway. The interstate murder-for-hire also comes with a statutory ten years.
According to the Adult Correctional Institutions records, Chandler Cardente is listed as a high-security inmate.
