The Pharr International Bridge was the scene of a big meth bust in Pharr, Texas as U.S Customs and Border Protection agents seized almost $2.4 million of the drug.
Texas Border Patrol Agents Seize Almost $2.4 Million in Meth Bust
The bust occurred on September 9, 2022, when agents posted at the Pharr International Bridge’s cargo facility spotted a tractor-trailer arriving from Mexico. It’s important to note that the Pharr International Bridge is a major entry point between the U.S and its neighbor to the south.
Also important to note is that while the trailer would have to be searched anyway because of the location and where it’s coming from, these vehicles are perfect for smuggling large quantities of anything.
The problem is that Border Patrol is very aware of this and is always on the lookout for a tractor trailer rolling up. This is a vehicle that just asks to get pressed by law enforcement.
Sure enough, after being pulled for inspection by the CBP, the trailer revealed its illicit bounty of 266.75 pounds of methamphetamine, an estimated street value of $2,384,668. The case is currently being handled by the CBP and ICE-Homeland Security Investigations.
Director Carlos Rodriguez, who oversees the Hidalgo-Pharr-Anzalduas Port of Entry had this to say on the bust:
“Our CBP officers relied on their experience and all available tools and resources to thwart this smuggling attempt.”
