Last week on AEW Dynamite, Wheeler Yuta would call the dedication of Bryan Danielson into question. He’s been more focused on Daniel Garcia recently, even calling him potentially the best wrestler of his generation… with Yuta sitting right there. Yuta would try to talk some sense into Danielson, noting that he respects Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli – but where do the allegiances of The American Dragon lay? Tonight we get the answer to this question, as Danielson goes one on one with Jericho Appreciation Society member Sammy Guevara.
Bryan Danielson Meets Sammy Guevara In First Time Ever Singles Encounter
This was a first time singles match, after both men were involved in the recent tournament of champions. Guevara would be aggressive out of the gate, forcing Danielson into the corner before the double jump cutter for a two count. GTH would be blocked, allowing Danielson to try for a German Suplex – but Guevara landed on his feet.
Danielson would take Guevara down to the mat, before applying the Romero Special on the mat. Guevara would have his face attacked while he was stretched, before a knee strike to the ribs. Danielson would hit some harsh European Uppercuts, before a knife edge chop in the corner.
Guevara would try and handle the strikes of Danielson, but would be completely overwhelmed before long. The elbow of Guevara would be stomped, before some straight punches to the face from Danielson. Guevara would be sent from the ring, but would take Danielson out of the sky with a rising knee before an Asai Moonsault.
Tay Melo would get a cheap shot in, before Guevara got a one count off a snap suplex in the ring. Danielson would be firmly on the defensive, taking a rushing dropkick in the corner. Some weak strikes to a kneeling Danielson would follow, with Guevara mocking him more than anything before showing his skills with a hard midkick.
The American Dragon Slays The Spanish God
Danielson would fire up, and caught a kick and slapped the taste out of the mouth of Guevara. Guevara was kicked into the corner, before being dropped with the elbow strike. Shotgun dropkick from the top rope to the chest would follow, before Danielson showed Guevara how to throw kicks – being walking into the Spanish Fly.
Guevara would be sent off the top rope with a super backdrop but landed on his feet. He’d look for a moonsault, but Danielson was able to avoid twice before catching Guevara into the LeBell Lock. Guevara rolled to the ropes, and got free – before setting up the Super Spanish Fly.
Danielson would take some punches to the face, before Guevara bit him. GTH would be blocked at the last possible second, before Danielson hit a reverse hurricanrana. Running knee smash would turn Guevara inside out, before the head was stomped and Guevara was choked out in the Triangle Choke.
Riho & Jamie Hayter Are No Stranger To Each Other
Tonight, Riho makes her return to TV for a match as she goes one on one with an old rival in Jamie Hayter. Riho showed last night on AEW Dark with a victory over Jungle Kyona that she’s not missed a beat in her time away from AEW, and tonight will have a chance to remind everyone that she was the first ever AEW Women’s World Championship.
Hayter would easily force Riho into the corner, showing her clear power edge. Riho is used to fighting from underneath in matches, and would get an armdrag after a mat return – before being dropped with a running elbow smash. Hayter would be unable to pin Riho, as she bridged free and took Hayter down with a headscissor takedown.
Riho would send Hayter out to the floor with a low bridge, before a crossbody splash to the floor. Hayter would recover, and drove Riho into the barricade before pressing the advantage in the ring with a snap suplex. Riho was thrown face first into the middle turnbuckle, as Britt Baker watched with a smile at ringside.
Hayter would mock a fallen Riho in the ring, stomping on the neck. Dropkick would land as Riho found her feet – before a wheelbarrow attempt from Hayter turned into a double stomp to the stomach. The Tiger Feint Kick would be blocked, but Riho hit a Northern Lights Suplex for a two count. Riho went up top, but Hayter caught the crossbody and hit a brainbuster.
Hayter would took Code Red in the middle of the ring, with Riho getting a near fall. Diving foot stomp was avoided, and a chokebreaker into the ripcord lariat would follow. Riho thankfully ducked the lariat, and hit a snap dragon suplex. Second lariat attempt would land, and Hayter got the win.
