FTR have been the #1 ranked tag team in AEW for a while now – but their focus on ROH & NJPW has seen them not actively chase the AEW World Tag Team Championships. That changes tonight, as they meet the former champions of Swerve In Our Glory, with the next shot at The Acclaimed on the line. FTR didn’t challenge for the belts when Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee were champions, leading some to claim that FTR feared this team. Tonight, we find out if this is true – as these two top teams meet for the first time ever.
FTR vs. Swerve In Our Glory Meet In Tag Team Epic
The Acclaimed would get an up close view for this match, sitting at the top of the ramp. Swerve would kick things off with Wheeler, locking up hard and battling for control in the corner – before being sent across the ring. Wheeler would apply a tight side headlock, before Swerve slipped free and took him down with a headscissor takedown.
Also watching this match closely was The Gunn Club, who were cosplaying as FTR in the front row – complete with cardboard belts that are the envy of five year olds everywhere. Harwood got the tag in the ring, taking Swerve down and getting a snap leg drop. Lee would get the tag, putting the two hard hitters of the match in direct competition.
FTR would try to use their speed to set up Big Rig on Keith Lee, but his size was just too much. Lee would duck and dive as FTR ran the ropes, before cutting them both down with a running crossbody – showing his uncanny agility. Wheeler would get cornered, and hit with a massive chop from Lee.
Swerve would hold the arms of Wheeler back in his corner, allowing Lee to nail another big chop to the chest. Swerve In Our Glory would cut the ring in half, but Wheeler wouldn’t even accept a one count as Lee went for a pinfall. Wheeler would try to fight to his feet, but was levelled by a massive chop.
A kick to the face would almost allow Wheeler to complete the tag, only for Lee to stop him. Swerve got the tag, and this would be followed by Wheeler getting the tag to Harwood. The hard chops would batter Swerve into the corner, before Lee tried to make the save – and would nearly be chopped down like a redwood.
Swerve Strickland Cheats To Win
Swerve would almost get the pinfall off an inside cradle, before slipping off the middle rope going for a dive taking a high angle German Suplex. FTR would hit a powerbomb into a Dragon Suplex, with Swerve barely kicking out. Gory Bomb would see Swerve able to kick off Harwood on the apron and make the tag to Keith Lee, who nailed a heavy forearm smash.
Wheeler would be thrown by Lee into a sit out powerbomb from Swerve – but was still able to kick out. He’d fight away from the Swerve Stomp, with Harwood working hard to hit the Slingshot Powerbomb on Swerve before being pounced by Lee. Wheeler would dropkick Lee, who would fall into the ropes and bounce back with a headbutt for the near fall.
Lee would be set up on the top rope of the FTR corner, with the Powerplex being the goal. Harwood hit the superplex, and Wheeler the splash – but Lee was able to just twist to not take all the splash on his chest – allowing for him to kick out.
Big Rig attempt would be countered, with Lee stopping it and Swerve hitting the House Call. FTR would take Swerve down and hit Big Rig on Lee, but Swerve yanked Harwood out of the ring and out of the tag. Swerve got a blind low blow on Harwood, and Gunn Club held Wheeler back as Lee hit Big Bang Catastrophe for the victory. The Acclaimed vs. Swerve In Our Glory III is coming soon.
MJF Has A Lot On His Mind Ahead Of Full Gear
MJF was given a lot to think about following last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. His nature as a villain was called into question by William Regal, a man who has quietly been a mentor to MJF throughout his career. Their exchange forced MJF to do the right thing, and not cash in his title match on a weakened Jon Moxley, but rather set the match for Full Gear – where he intends to earn the title. Tonight, MJF has been given time with a live microphone once again – which is always must see TV.
With Renee Paquette leading the interview, MJF would hit the stage to a massive reaction. The Devil has arrived in Virginia, and from the sound of it – he’s got plenty of supporters. Renee would ask for MJF’s thoughts on the upcoming match with Moxley, and MJF responded by mocking the mannerisms and promo style of Moxley.
With all due respect, MJF just thinks Moxley is mid. Last week, MJF said he’d earn it – but he’s not going to be squeaky clean at Full Gear. MJF would speak on Regal, who claimed he used brass knuckles because it was fun, by implying MJF can’t win with the ring. So at Full Gear, MJF promises to not use the Dynamite Diamond Ring to win.
He will win at Full Gear, because he’s channelled his frustrations and turned it into a heavy chip on his shoulder. MJF will use that chip and shove it down the throat of all his doubters at Full Gear, and leave as the World’s Champion. Stokely Hathaway would come out and interrupt MJF, but again would get off for a warning. The Firm is not to attack Moxley between now and Full Gear, as MJF needs this win to prove himself.
