Since All Out, we have not went an episode of AEW Dynamite without seeing Toni Storm in action. Tonight, she is once again stepping up to defend the Interim AEW Women’s World Championship, but not against a rival. Instead tonight, she will face a close friend and tag partner in Hikaru Shida. Shida is a former AEW Women’s World Champion, and recently got the pinfall over Britt Baker in a tag team match – and Storm would decide to give Shida a title shot. We can expect both ladies in top form tonight, as they battle over the biggest prize in the division.
Toni Storm & Hikaru Shida Go All Out From Opening Bell
Storm & Shida would shake hands, while commentary said that it has been 16 months since her last one on one match for the Women’s World Champion. They first crossed paths in 2013, making his match essentially ten years in the making. Storm would apply a headlock as this match would begin, before being sent off and hit with a dropkick. Shida would be sent to the apron, and nailed with a running hip attack.
Back in the ring, Storm would whip Shida around by her hair – showing some edge in this match and forcing Shida to try and fight to her feet. They’d exchange forearm smashes in the middle of the ring, with Shida winning out before hitting a hurricanrana. Shida went to the top rope and came down with a missile dropkick for the two count.
Storm would catch Shida on the top rope the second time, looking for the Avalanche Storm Zero. Shida would fight her off and came down with the Meteora before a modified Ganso Bomb. Storm would barely kick out and block the Falcon Arrow – before avoiding the Venus Shoot kick out of the corner. Storm would hit the hip attack, but the DDT was blocked into a suplex for the two count.
Riho Makes Her Return In Post Match Save
German Suplex from Storm would get a 2.9 count, with Storm holding on out of the bridge but was unable to get a second. Tornado DDT into Storm Zero, and Toni Storm remains the AEW Women’s World Champion.
After the bell, Jamie Hayter would come from the crowd to beat the champion down – setting the table for Britt Baker. Saraya would be quick to follow and make the save, and she’d charge Baker down before a brawl. Riho was out next, and would take Rebel & Hayter to save the champion.
The AEW Women’s World Championship picture is as tightly contested as ever before. Who will get the next shot? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
