We haven’t seen Adam Cole in the ring for a match since AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, when he would suffer a concussion in a match for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. More than 100 days later, Cole has yet to return to the ring – with some fearing this could be the end of his in-ring career.
Adam Cole Is Still Not Cleared To Return Following Concussion
During the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, we’d hear from both Dave Meltzer & Bryan Alvarez on if they heard anything new about the status of Adam Cole. They’d be quoted saying the following.
Dave Meltzer: “You hear anything new? It’s a concussion. It’s a bad concussion. Real bad concussion. He’ll be back when he’s cleared, it could be tomorrow, and it could be never, you know what I mean?”
Bryan Alvarez: “Yeah, I’ve not really heard anything. He’s doing his Twitch deal every day, so from that aspect, he’s fine, but I don’t know what the status of being able to travel, work, or anything is, so I guess we’ll see.”
Cole streams under the name of CHUGS, with 126K followers on the platform – giving a healthy and growing audience. His streaming personality is remarkably calm compared to what people are used to seeing from Cole in his wrestling persona.
His Charisma & Promo Ability Will Keep Him Relevant In The Industry
When it comes to Cole in wrestling, his in-ring career ending would obviously be a major blow – but he’s got the perk of being incredibly charismatic. Cole could become an all-time great manager, which would be ironic given WWE plans for him to manage Keith Lee on the main roster before Cole would opt to instead leave the company. His promo ability is second to none, with him able to out-talk just about anyone in the industry.
His skills with the microphone combined with his popularity in AEW will ensure that he is able to keep giving the to industry without taking another bump, if that’s what the future calls for. Needless to say, everyone is hoping Cole is able to get cleared and return to the ring. Concussions are to be taken seriously, but the miraculous returns of Bryan Danielson & Christian Cage show that anything is possible in this industry.
