We’re returning to the El Centro Sector and to Salton City, California as Border Patrol arrested a U.S citizen attempting to smuggle meth through a checkpoint.
Agents stopped a white 2015 Dodge Durango—the trafficker’s choice—at around 1:15 AM at the Highway 86 checkpoint on September 27, 2022. As is the procedure with suspicious vehicles, it had to undergo a secondary inspection.

The secondary inspection is the kiss of death for smugglers because with that comes the drug-sniffing dogs. The K-9 led agents to the rear of the Durango and after checking the interior and exterior, they turned up sealed packages of a crystallized substance.
An inspection of the undercarriage revealed a spare tire which was also loaded with bags of the same substance.
According to the Border Patrol, hiding drugs in a spare tire is a common trick by traffickers. Ultimately, there are only so many tactics that can be tried when smugglers run the same highly secured checkpoints. Eventually, authorities would be hip to it.
That’s down to trying to cross with drugs in a white SUV.
In all, Border Patrol agents seized 103.6 pounds of what would later be tested and revealed to be meth. Authorities have estimated the street value of the meth at $228,008. The smuggler, the Durango, and the meth were all headed over to the DEA.
