Archetypes, Meghan Markle’s controversial podcast is nominated for the People’s Choice Award despite the fact that it creates massive backlash with each episode it airs. Most recently, it made the headlines due to the Duchess’ comments about the Deal or No Deal show. While cashing in close to $1 million from participating in the show, Meghan Markle criticized it by saying she was ‘reduced to a bimbo’ while on set.
Spotify introduced the podcast back in August. They promised us that Archetypes will be one of the best and most popular podcasts on the platform. Archetypes certainly fulfilled Spotify’s expectations in terms of popularity. However, it also created fertile soil for people to plant their criticism. Meghan Markle has made so many controversial claims during the episodes of her podcast, that just the thought of Archetypes immediately pushes people to feel repulsion.
Meghan Markle Asks For YOUR Help – If You Like Our Podcast, Please Vote’
After Queen Elizabeth’s passing in September, Meghan Markle respectfully postponed the publishing of new episodes on the podcast for a couple of weeks. Since then, she aired four episodes, inviting Paris Hilton for one of them and making the ‘bimbo’ claims.
Rebecca Sananes, the head of audio, announced that the People’s Choice Award nominated the podcast for ‘Pop Podcast of 2022’. She took to Instagram on Thursday, the 27th of October, to share the news.
“#Archetypes is nominated for a People’s Choice Award. If you like our show, please vote!” – she wrote in the caption, asking the people in Meghan Markle’s name to vote for the podcast.
The podcast has very strong competition. It is up against Alex Cooper‘s Call Her Daddy, and Dax Sheperd’s Armchair Expert. In addition, Emma Chamberlain’s Anything Goes, Conon O’Brien Needs A Friend, SmartLess and Why Won’t You Date Me? with Nicole Byer.
All of these are top podcasts on the platform and form the whole Spotify audience if combined together. There were rumors of a potential fabricating of results regarding the popularity of the Archetypes podcast on Spotify. The platform purposely pushed the podcast to the first place when it aired to non-organically raise its popularity. Now, these awards might be a confirmation if that is really so. It will show if Archetypes is indeed one of the best podcasts on the platform.
The awards ceremony will happen on December 6th. However, there is no confirmation if Meghan Markle will attend it.
The Duchess of Sussex signed a $25 million deal with Spotify for her podcast in 2020. Spotify advertised the purpose behind the podcast as an ‘investigation of labels that hold women back’.
What do you think? Did the podcast fulfill its purpose? Did Spotify fabricate Archetypes’ popularity?
