The actor just so happened to be discussing a crush that he had on Jonas when he appeared on the “The Wendy Williams Show.” In the clip here, we can see that Neil is speaking about Nick after having been asked who his celebrity crush had been.
He was heard saying the following: “And he was really good-looking before it was kind of allowed to think he was good-looking, which was a bit of a problem, you kind of had to wait till he turned to be, you know, 19 to 20, and then you’re like, ‘What is happening?’”
This raised a huge amount of controversy for the following reasons. First of all, Neil was 42-years-old at the time. Therefore, people found his comments entirely bizarre as they left a very bad impression.
Secondly, given the reaction by the audience, they were far from impressed due to the absence of any large laughter. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.
One person wrote: “Why is everyone surprised when a Hollywood actor turns out to be an asshat,” while another person stated: “So strange as I literally love this man- but everyday another problematic issue is shocking but not shocking.”
This is not the first time that Neil has found himself at the center of some controversy. He was also called out for a prior joke which he had made about the death of Amy Winehouse.
Neil and his husband, David Burtka, had decided to share a picture of a buffet platter in the form of her dead body for Halloween just months after her death.
In some comments of the time, Harris remarked: “Amy Winehouse was a once-in-a-generation talent, and I’m sorry for any hurt this image caused.”
