Norfolk Border Patrol Seize Over $130K in Counterfeit Disney Merchandise from Turkey
One of the two shipments was addressed to a spot in Delaware and included 2,562 pieces of merchandise. The remaining 654 items were scheduled to be sent to an address close to Baltimore, Maryland.
Border Patrol agents had a suspicion that the goods might be bogus and sent them off for inspection. The following day, their suspicions were confirmed that the bedspreads, backpacks, clothes, and so on were all counterfeit and infringing on Disney’s brand.
Authorities estimated the street value at around $130,786 and officially seized them on October 11, 2022. The Area Director for Port of Norfolk-Newport News, Mark Laria said of the Border Patrol’s work on this case:
“Unscrupulous vendors threaten the health and safety of unsuspecting consumers by peddling counterfeit goods as authentic and safe products, and as a grandparent, these seizures are particularly worrisome considering that some of these consumer goods were infant and children’s products. CBP strongly encourages consumers to protect their families by purchasing authentic goods from reputable vendors.”
