An Ohio couple was charged with the murder of their 8-year-old adopted son six years after his death. John Synder II and Katherine Snyder were arrested on September 26, 2022 and booked into New York’s Clinton County Jail.
The couple is expected to be extradited to Hamilton County, Ohio. Their adopted child died in late 2016 and left Hamilton County sometime in 2017.

A felony warrant from the U.S Marshals for Katherine Synder drew attention to the couple. In October 2016, the Synders were hit with a 26-count indictment related to child endangerment involving their five children–four of the children being adopted. In a report from WCAX 3, it was said that the children all showed signs of neglect and malnutrition.
One of the adopted children named Adam died in their care. It was reported that for the month prior to his death, Adam’s parents didn’t bother to feed him. His cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma to the head by the coroner and as sepsis by the Synders’ hired experts.
The Synders would lose on that front.
